The Junfraujoch, as the highest trainstation in Europe also marketised as "Top of Europe" is a Full- day excursion, warranting snow and ice at any time.
The Jungfrau Railway, the highest railway in Europe and one of the most interesting of all mountain lines, was constructed in 1896- 1912 from the designs of Adolph Guyer- Zeller of Zürich. It attains a height of over 11,000 ft., thus bringing the most unathletic into the upper regions of the expert climber.
Arrived on 3454 meters above sea level, one can fall in love with a surpassing panorama, including some of the highest over 4000 meters high mountains of europe and the glacier of Aletsch. If it's foggy outside on the hiking plateau one can visit the subterraneously built Ice Palace with animal statues built out of ice. Beside this, there is a Sphynx Obersvation Hall, a restaurant with the astonishing view just described above and low prices alike, an exhibition about alpin research. Summer attractions include a skilift, husky- drawn sledging and adventure activities.
The Jungfraujoch is also a weather station and was listed as a world inheritage by UNESCO 2001.
