Where Sherlock Holmes Died in Berner Oberland
The Reichenbach Falls is said to be the highest cataract in the Swiss Alps, with a total drop of 820 feet. The Reichenbach is famous for being the place where Sherlock Holmes died, in the Arthur Conan Doyle novel The Adventure of the Final Problem. A plaque commemorates this event.
Tolkien’s Rivendell is in Berner Oberland
The Staubbach Falls is one of the attractions of the town of Lauterbrunnen in Berner Oberland. The valley in which Lauterbrunnen stands is the inspiration that gave Tolkien to create Rivendell, the home of the elves in his masterpiece The Lord of the Rings.
